December 27, 2010... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTE: I would like to start off with a big "Thanks" to all who helped with anything to do with the Christmas holiday celebrations. It was great! Thank you, Rich Brotemarkle for the special music Sunday.
I also want to thank Jan and Angela Foltz for their help at the Christmas Eve. service. Due to the illness of one participant, Jan had to fill in plus sing. It started to look like The Von Foltz family singers. We did not intend that but... Oh well.
Christmas at the Foltz household went very well. It was good to have Angie and Jan's mom, Bea, with us for all of the Christmas events. We all opened presents on Christmas eve. It took quite a while. I just thought that you should know... Jan did quite well, thank you!
As many of you are aware, my deceased dog Shelby, is rumored once again, to have provided me with two gifts this year... a watch and a belt. It is amazing how that happens. Beautiful watch Shelb!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians, chapter 6 and verse 4 it says, referring to children: "...bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." [NIV]. The message was given to fathers so that they would know how to train their children... not exasperate them. The methods used to train children should be biblical. They should be good sound tools. The scripture offers much advice to fathers... especially in the Book of Proverbs. Where are you going to get the Lord's instruction other than His Word? Fathers, go to the Book first, then train accordingly. This is the will of God for you.

December 20, 2010... Training Materials
What a joyous time of the year! It is a time that we set aside to remember the birth of our Savior those many years ago in Bethlehem.
PERSONAL NOTES: I need to thank several people and groups for their participation in the Sunday services. First, I thank the Savior Singers for their special music. Second, I thank Bud and Sallie for the Advent candle lighting. Third, thank you choir for the Bethlehem Suite presentation. Fourth, I want to thank "Mr. Bud" for arranging and "mothering" the entire Christmas program. Bud. I really enjoyed it. I pronounce it a winner!
Last but not least, a mighty thank you to Mary and the gang for all of the treats after the Christmas program. It was great!
REMINDER: Friday, the 24th, features a candle light Christmas Eve. Service at 7pm. It will last no longer than one hour. We invite you out to it. Also, don't forget to pick up all of your Christmas cards at the church mail center (in the lobby).

BONUS THEOLOGY ARTICLE: Please click on this LINK in order to read and download the article: Second article concerning "Questions About Jesus' Birth". I believe that you will find it interesting.
YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Second John, verses 10 and 11 we see these words: "If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work." [NIV]. This passage may seem hard to grasp at first, but, in context it is a reference for accepting false teaching of the day and actually lending support to it by helping those who spread it.
Most scholars agree that the "teaching" being refered to was a basic Gnostic heresy that said Jesus did not come in the flesh, but rather temporarily came upon Jesus between baptism and crucifixion.
By taking these teachers in (in to the congregation and giving them a platform and support), this local Church was inadvertently helping the spread of this error. The same would be true for any local Church and who they allow to teach and preach. Care must be taken in our choices of teachers and messages. This is God's revealed will for you.

December 13, 2010... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTES: I need to issue some special thanks to those who participated in yesterday's service. First, I want to thank Dave and Margie Lester for Lighting the third candle during our Advent Candle Lighting. Second, I need to thank Rich and the King's Kids for sharing the special music with us.
We hope to have the new projector bulb soon (you can't just go to Sears and buy another one). We rely on it to give ongoing information to the congregation... plus the songs! Hopefully it will arrive soon... then we have to find a brave soul to install it. I know who won't go up there...me!
Quite a few from the Church went over to American House and engaged the people in singing, cupcakes and punch. We had a great time... and they love the kids! Thank you Barb Swift and associates for setting that up. Quite a few of the guests showed up for the "party".
On a sad note, we lost one of our long-time members last week, Willard Frank. We will miss the counties' unofficial historian. Our best wishes go to June and family.
I will also be officiating today at the funeral for Lorraine Costabile. It will be at Sharp's at 1 pm. Pray for me and the family during this time.
DON'T FORGET... this Friday we are all going Christmas caroling. This will be a church-wide event. Meet at the Church at 5:45 to get our assignments.
Next Sunday evening is our children's Christmas program at 6 pm. Plan now to be there. It is always enjoyable... and sometimes a hoot!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: If you look in your Bible at Second Peter 3 and verse 17. Here it tells the believer..."be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men." The lesson here is relatively simple and that is, be careful of false teachers and their teachings! Each Christian must take care as to which authors to trust and believe. There are many books available, but they are not all valuable. There are many voices on the radio and TV, but they are not all biblically correct. Make sure that you check out the "voices" that you listen to. It is possible that some of them are wolves in sheep's clothing. When in doubt, ask the Pastor. He may be able to shed some light on the issue. If we pay careful attention, we can know the will of God.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take this opportunity to thank Ron and Linda Light for your assistance in the lighting of the second Advent candle yesterday.
I also want to thank our musicians who had to scramble to make some changes at the last minute due to the fact that the projector bulb blew Sunday morning with no time to make a change. Thanks people!
Choir: good job with the selection, "Come and See". I enjoyed it.
I also want to thank all who were involved in the communion preparation and distribution. We appreciate your service.
A sad note is that long time member, Willard Frank passed away early Sunday morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to June and the family. We will miss him. His funeral will be 11 am. on Wednesday the 8th, at Swartz Funeral Home.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Luke chapter 12, the author says in verse 15, "...Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed;...". This statement from Jesus is a prelude to the parable of the Rich Fool. He is not saying that we should not have things. He is saying that each and everyone one us must guard against the abundance of personal possessions to the disregard of our spiritual wealth with God. Focus on the things with eternal ramifications. This is the will of God for you.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: This month I want to recommend a Baker book entitled: Answering Islam by N. Geisler and A Saleeb. It comes in paper back form and would be a good book for you to get on this subject. Ronald Nash says, "The Muslim presence in the United States continues to grow. It is important that we have a clearly written and fairly presented statement of what Muslims believe and how we as Christians may present the claims of Christ to them in a persuasive and loving way." I believe that you will find this book valuable. I know that I have.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank Gil and Karen Bonno for being our first advent candle lighters of the 2010 Christmas season. Thank you Gil and Karen. We have 4 more candles to go.
A special thanks to Mr. Bud and the Savior Singers for their special music Sunday. Great job kids (and Mr. Bud)!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Matthew, chapter 10 and verse 17, the author says, "Be on your guard against men;...". Jesus' statement is in a context of taking abuse from the religious leaders. Jesus points out that the abuse will come because of their connection to him. Today, the lesson would be that some people in power may not like what we do in Jesus name... but that is the price we pay for being the Lord's servants. There are those who oppose the things of the Lord. Know and understand that! The good news is that in verse 26, Jesus says, "So do not be afraid of them.".

PERSONAL NOTE: Yesterday was a tremendous day as we dedicated the Operation Christmas Child boxes and had a Church-wide Thanksgiving celebration together. It was great!
I want to thank everyone who was involved in the Operation Christmas Child venture. We had a great dedication and tremendous cooperation by the congregation! We had about 142 boxes that were turned in so far (11-22-10). WOW!!!
A special thanks goes out to everyone who made the Church-wide Thanksgiving dinner such a great success. A mighty big THANKS goes to all who helped set up and to those who actually prepared food items. A job well done!!!
Good job choir on the special music you provided in the worship service.
Just as a side note, our sympathy goes out to the families of Kenny Brown and Charles Watson. Both individuals passed away a few days back and our prayers are with the families.
I will be on Ask the Pastor today at 2 pm., so please remember me and the panel in your prayers. It is my desire that all of the members of the panel give good biblical answers to the questions that are asked.
Please remember to check your church bulletins with care in the coming weeks as we move towards Christmas. There will be a lot of events coming up and you won't want to miss them!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Matthew 7: 15 and Phil. 3 and verse 2 we as Christians are warned to beware of false prophets. This is God's will for us. The point here is obvious: false prophets teach false doctrines under the guise of biblical truth. Each one of us needs to be careful of who's teaching we are listening to. Just because someone claims the title of "prophet", does not make him one. We have a sure word from God in the scriptures... therefore do not chase after "prophets".

PERSONAL NOTE: Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 began the kick-off for Operation Christmas Child. We showed a short video of what is involved in providing the shoe boxes for children all over the world. What a tremendous opportunity this is! Let us have all of our people get involved in one way or another. Reach the kids while we can!
A special thanks to Jan Foltz for the solo she sang yesterday. Well done... and a true blessing to all.
It was good to see Elizabeth Swift back with us. Continued healing is prayed for... also RoseMarie was with us Sunday. It was good to see you in our midst! We continue to pray for you.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Oct. 31 Fall Outreach. Congratulations to those who received the winning prizes... job well done! Our next date on the Fall Outreach Campaign is November 21, 2010. Begin making your plans to invite a guest with you for that Sunday. Our work will make it a great day!
11/3/10 NOTE: Two days ago I received my Bible back from having it rebound. I got the Bible in 1987 (that's 23 years ago) and have used it as my main study Bible as well as my preaching Bible. I am not abusive to it or handle it roughly, but through the years of constant use it began to come apart in certain sections. It was time to think of getting a new one or having the old one rebound. Because of all of my notes, I decided to get it rebound. Now the problem was, who do I let touch it. After some extensive research, I found Ace Bookbinding Company, 825 N. Classen Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73106. Their phone number is 1-800-525-8896.
I am very pleased with their craftsmanship and the finished product. I had it rebound in genuine cowhide leather with three ribbons added and five extra sheets at the end of the Bible for notes. It cost me $79 plus s&h to have it done (yours may vary due to size). For me it was money well spent. Thank you Ace Bookbinding... well done! I recommend them for your rebinding needs.

Each one of us has the opportunity to keep God's will by simply doing what is right. As Christians, this must be our pattern. Today, as you go about your regular duties, do not feel worn down by good deeds. Rather, wear them as a badge of honor as you serve the Lord. This is the will of God for you!
BOOK RECOMMENDATION: This month, I want to recommend to you the book: Bringing Your Faith To Work by Norman Geisler and Randy Douglass. It is published by Baker Books of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The book is designed to help you with responses for "seemingly unanswerable queries of your colleagues". This book will help you give reasons for the faith that you hold. YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of Ephesians and chapter 5, verse 18 it states "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit." [NIV]
This is God's will for you. This one seems like a "no-brainer". This verse is, among other things, contrasting being led off into sin or being led by the Spirit in service to the King. If you are doing one you cannot be doing the other. Our daily roll as a Christian is to be led (filled) by the Holy Spirit. If we are not filled by the Holy Spirit, something or someone else will fill that spot. Who will it be? You will decide every day! Remember, this is the will of God for you.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: This month I have chosen to recommend Dr. Charles Ryrie's book, Basic Theology. My edition was published by Victor Books in 1986. I am sure that you can locate a newer edition. Dr. Ryrie has been a staple of knowledge among conservative Evangelicals for many years. He has been a theology professor for a long time and I have appreciated his works through the years. You will find this single volume a great tool... especially if you are a teacher. It is concise and to the point... no fluff here! It is well worth your purchase.
YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: Today's passage is found in Second Corinthians, chapter 6 and verses 14-18. The statement we are concerned with here is this: "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers." This declaration by the Holy Spirit is a wide ranging one. I can think of a couple of areas that the author had in mind. First, he probably was hinting at their relationships with false teachers and their false teachings. Secondly, it directly applies to dating and marriage situations. Third, it could also apply to business relationships. The yoke was made of wood and it was used to bind two animals together as they worked pulling a plow, wagon, etc. Read the passage from verse 11 through chapter 7 and verse 4. You will get a better idea of what is being said. This is the will of God for you!

PERSONAL NOTE: Allow me thank the Savior Singers, led by Mr. Bud yesterday. It is always good to have the kids sing on Sunday. Thanks Kids!
I was pleased that a number of our people took the time to come up and have prayer with the Pastor during the second song package. We need to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there.
Sunday night, a few of us saw and heard Gold City in concert. What a way to end the day! It was good to see Tim Riley back in the saddle again singing bass. He is about as good as it gets!
Let me invite you out Wednesday night for our Bible study time. We are in the Book of Revelation. I know that you will find this a great study.
REMEMBER: Thursday (30th) is our Church business meeting. Please come and be a part of it.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Corinthians, chapter 15 and verse 33, the will of God is clearly expressed saying that we are not to be misled as a result of keeping bad company. As Christians, we need to take care concerning who is influencing our lives. If you surround yourself with good companions, the influence will tend to be positive. If you surround yourself with bad people, the influence will tend to be negative. Take the time to read Romans 12: 1-2 with a similar point of view. This is the will of God.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In I Corinthians 14 and verse 20, the Apostle exhorts each of us to "think like adults". If you read the context very clearly, you will notice that it was written to people who had great confusion about their ministries. Paul is telling them to stop acting like children and start acting as adults. Use your head! Understand the purpose of what you are doing... don't view ministry form a selfish point of view. Ministry is about others, not ourselves (notice the problem area he is dealing with is speaking in tongues). Grow up!

PERSONAL NOTE: I was very pleased with the worship service yesterday. One of our members came by and shared with me that the message was exactly what she needed to hear. It gave her some answers. Praise the Lord!
I want to thank Dee Wilson for the special music of he morning. Great sermon, Dee!
A big thanks to all who were at the fish-fry/western activity on Saturday night. It was a great time! Special thanks goes out to Ernie Johnston for providing the mighty catch of fish and for cooking it for the rest of us! Thanks, Ernie... good stuff (I heard many comments about how good the fish was)!!
LOOKING AHEAD: This week all of our fall programs and ministries to kids will kick into high gear. Tuesday will be the Fall kick-off of the teen, W.O.L. Revolution. Wednesday will see the kick-off of the other Word of Life groups here at First Baptist Church. What a great time it is... but what a very busy time it is! Allow me to thank all of the leaders in advance for all of your work. THANKS!!!
This week also starts the new round of Men's Morning Fellowship with the other area A.B. Churches. September the 16th will see us at Camp Lael for our Fall kick-off. Talk to Miller Baugh if you have any questions.
Remember to contact Mayfair Bible Church if you are interested in attending the Holy Land Virtual Tour on Saturday and Sunday, September 18 and 19. This should be a great learning event. See Posters around the Church for more specifics.
Leaders: plan now to be involved in this month's Attendance Builder on September 26. Let's shoot for 130 in attendance for worship that day! We can do it!!! The fliers handed out a couple of weeks ago said we would target relatives that day. If you don't have any relatives who could attend... adopt some or bring some friends. Let's be a part of the solution. It doesn't require everyone to cooperate for this to work. Many hands make light work!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of Romans and at chapter 12 and verse 2, we find that the writer states that we are not be be conformed to this world. That means that we are not to be pressed into the mold that the world creates... rather we are to be transformed. Our views and outlook on life and spiritual things should be governed by the Word of God... not outside forces (political correctness, etc.). This is the will of God for you.

BONUS BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Today's book recommendation is either the abridged version or the standard version of: Christian Theology by Millard J. Erickson (the abridged version is called, Introducing Christian Doctrine.) The full edition is a large, single volume, and is full of great information from a Baptist perspective. He also deals with other views as appropriate. I believe that every Bible teacher should have a good theology volume at hand... this is a good one. The Book is published by Baker Book House.
YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: The will of God revealed in Luke 12 and verse 4 is that we are not to be afraid of those who kill the body... in other words do not be afraid of men. Our concern should be with the One who not only deals in the physical realm, but also extends to the spiritual realm! Humans can only do temporary things... God can do eternal things. Understand that this is the will of God.
