Welcome on this Tuesday morning... and a post-Merry Christmas! I hope that you had a very merry Christmas. I know that my family did... plus as a bonus, we enjoyed the presence of Dallas (Angie's dog).

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in the planning and execution of all of the parts that made this past Christmas Sunday such a great worship service. I also appreciated my daughter, Angela Foltz, for coming and sharing her voice with us. What a great day it was.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians 4 and verse 26 it says,"... Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,". Obviously the context is all about anger and how to deal with it. We need to make sure that we do not harbor anger in our hearts. Don't wait to take action... take action today for today's anger. Forgive now not later... because later may not come. We need to demonstrate love not hate. This is God's will for you.

December 20, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings on this cool Tuesday morning.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank the Flickinger family for lighting our fourth Advent Candle. Well done! I also want to thank Dee Wilson for singing "Breath of Heaven" to all of us... nicely done. Thanks also to Nikki Brand for sharing the Missions Minute with us. Hey, it was good to see Kattie Sutton home from her duty with the Marines. I also want to thank Bud Myers for giving us the Christmas program that was shared Sunday night and Sue Warner and Susan Johnson for overseeing much of the the operations along with all of the teachers and leaders who helped. Special thanks to all participants, young and old, who had a part in the program. Thanks Dee, Linda and choir for your leadership and thanks Mary Hocken and associates, for setting up all of the treats afterward. It was a really great evening... and "God bless us, everyone" (tiny Tim).

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Romans 6 and verse 12 it says, "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires." (NIV). This verse is pretty straight forward. As Christians, we need to understand that we are to be instruments of righteousness, not instruments of unrighteousness. Sin does not have to have control over us. We can choose to say no.

Greetings to you on this Tuesday morning. Illness prevented me from setting the blog up on Monday... sorry!

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank Dan and Marti Herman for their part in the Advent Candle lighting this past Sunday. I also thank Susan and the King's Kids for sharing their song with us. Thanks choir for your message in song.

I was not sure that my voice was going to hold out for the service on Sunday... but it did. For that I am grateful. I just hope that this cold leaves quickly and doesn't turn into something worse.

December 5, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings on this rainy December day.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank all of the ladies who were part of the communion preparation. I also wish to thank Jim and Nikki Brand for participating in the second advent candle lighting. If you were there Sunday, you are aware that I will be doing a series of Christmas messages for the month of December. The series will focus upon gifts that God has given us. Don't miss it. The concluding "gift" will be shared on Christmas day.

SPECIAL NOTE: I thought that you might want to know that our Church participation in Operation Christmas Child resulted in the collection center for our area receiving 7,028 shoe box gifts. WOW!!! Thanks for your help. Mark your calendar for December 18, 2011. This will be our Church Christmas program, "Why Christmas?" It will be at 6 pm.... light refreshments to follow.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In I Peter 3: 3 and 4 it says, "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." [NIV]. Let me make a couple of observations. First, God does not say that we shouldn't look good. The text is contrasting our ideas versus God's ideas. Second, the passage is directed to wives in relationship to their husbands and families. God is more interested in behavior than looks. Third, God values the woman who values her own family over just shallow looks. Read the entire passage from 3: 1-6. Note the word "submissive". This passage is the will of God for you.

Welcome to this blog today... one day late! I had a funeral yesterday morning which prevented me from getting the blog up and running.

PERSONAL NOTE: I wish to thank Mr. Bud and the Savior Singers for their message in song Sunday... good job kids! I am also grateful to Miller and Jane Baugh for lighting our first Advent candle of the season. Thanks goes out to Sue Warner for her message in song.

Our condolences goes out to Margaret Martin and family in the passing of her sister, Helen Shields.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In James 5 and verse 13, the writer asks a very general question: "Is any one of you in trouble?" WOW! What a very broad question. I think that it is fair to say that in any given week that question may apply to each of us. What is important is the answer to the question which is: "He should pray.". God wants us to know that when we find ourselves troubled, we do have a solution to the trouble and that is to take it to the Lord in prayer... and leave it there! If you give the trouble over to the Lord, watch and see Him take action. When He takes care of it is His business! The song says,"Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there". This is excellent advice.

Greetings to you on this Thanksgiving week. I trust that you will have a very nice Thanksgiving.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in the worship service yesterday. Thanks choir , for the great message in song. Thanks goes out to everyone who prepared a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. I believe the final total was around 122 boxes. What a blessing to kids over seas! GOOD JOB, Church!

Thanks to everyone involved in the Harvest Dinner that we all shared in yesterday. It was a great time of fellowship. A special thanks to all of the kitchen help. Great job people!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In James 1:19 it says, "...Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry," [NIV]. This verse requires very little commentary on my part. If all within the body of Christ would heed the truth of this statement, a great many problems within the Church would be eliminated. Anger causes many a person to fly off of the handle and cause damage which is then not corrected. The lesson here is: watch your mouth!

PERSONAL NOTE: We want to thank all of you who are veterans for your service to us and our country. We owe a debt of gratitude which can never be repaid. We salute you!

I want to thank the choir and Jan Foltz for the music on Sunday morning. It was very good. Thank you, King's Kids for your special selection. I always enjoy hearing from the youngsters.

NOTE: Next Sunday the 20th is our Harvest Thanksgiving Dinner here at the Church. Make sure that you are here and make it a point to invite someone along. What a great opportunity to do so. Also, remember to fill your Operation Christmas Child box and bring it the 20th.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians 5 and verse 33 it says, "... and the wife must respect her husband." [NIV]. This section follows the command to men that they are to love their wives. The word translated respect is also understood as "reverence". The entire idea is that the wife is to hold her husband in high regard, primarily because of his position in the family structure. If the wife shows disrespect to the husband she is teaching her children the same thing. Our job as Christians is to be obedient to the Lord in all things. This is the will of God.

Greetings on this November day.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians 5:25 it says, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her." [NIV]. Men, this is a clear statement. Men, we are under obligation to look out for the benefit and welfare of our spouses. We are to love them... but it does not stop there. We are to love them as Christ loved the Church. I think we as men need to sit down and really think that one through. Beating your wife is not the love of Christ. Divorcing your wife is not the love of Christ. Speaking and berating her in front of others, is not loving your wife. The key phrase to remember here is, "... as Christ loved...". It takes work, so let's get at it!

BOOK RECOMMEND: I thought that I would take this section and do something different today. On occasion, some might ask where they could get a Bible rebound. Maybe you have a favorite Bible with lots of notes that you would hate to have to write all over again, but the Bible's binding is coming apart and you feel it's worth saving. Well, about a year ago, I was in that same position but where would I turn? After some research, I located ACE Bookbinding Co., 825 N. Classen Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73106. They are also located on the web at www.acebookbindery.com . It is not cheap to have a Bible rebound, but I found their work outstanding and well worth my time and money. Check it out if you need a rebinding service (I receive no payment for this endorsement).

Greetings to you on a cool October morn.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in yesterday's worship experience. Thanks, Bud Myers, for your solo number... good stuff!

I also want to thank and acknowledge everyone who was involved in the Saturday, Children's Costume Party. I pronounce it a success! A mighty thanks is due to Bill and Barb Swift for overseeing this event. THANKS!!!

NOTE: Operation Christmas Child runs from October 30, 2011 until November 20, 2011 here at the Church. Begin packing your shoe boxes now so that they can be turned in by Nov. 20th. Last year our people filled 142 boxes... let's see what we can do this year.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians 5 and verse 22 it says, "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord." [NIV]. If you will note the context, it occurs right after the submit to one another statement of verse 21. This term in ancient Greek had the idea of yielding authority to one of higher rank. In this context, the Lord wants us to understand the relationship and roles of the husband and wife in the marriage. Submit does not mean to be a doormat! It is a matter of recognizing God ordained positions. All Christians are to submit to the leadership of Christ as Christ submitted to the leadership of the Father. This is the will of God.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in the details of yesterday's worship service and Sunday School. I appreciate every one's service.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Galatians 6:6, the author makes this statement: "Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor." [NIV]. Please compare this with Phil. 4:14-19. In a passage where the author is making a variety of comments, he speaks to the issue of supporting the Pastor/Teachers in the local assembly. In order to do the work of teaching, they must spend time with the Apostles and Prophets (for us today, that would be the Bible). In order to deliver good teaching, time must be spent. He is merely speaking of paying those who are the above. This is the will of God.

Greetings on this rather grey October morning.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who went to Christian Resources International from our Church and helped in sorting and boxing books and study materials. YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Corinthians 14 and verse 40 it reads, "But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." [NIV]. The context of this verse is directly the result of the speaking in tongues problem that the Church at Corinth was experiencing (along with a host of other problems). Paul spends three chapters in First Corinthians on spiritual gifts and their use and abuse in the Church. Paul is stating that procedures in the Church must be done decently and in proper order. Self-control is the order of the day. It is possible to abuse even those things that are upright and holy. Let us practice order in the exercise of gifts and remember that this is the will of God.

Don't forget the Child Evangelism Fellowship concert/fundraiser here at First Baptist Church. We are hosting this event but CEF is running it. I hope that you will take advantage of the event and show your support.

Sunday at 4 pm. I drove a group of the teens and leaders to a corn maize in Corunna. When the maize was done, we went to the Wylie's home for an afterglow where we played a number of games and ate every thing in site. Thanks Wylie family... we had a great, noisy, funny, and insane time!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Corinthians chapter 11 and verse 28 it says, "A man ought to examine himself before he eats the bread and drinks the cup." [NIV]. Of course, the lesson her is all about the Lord's supper or communion. The main point is that there should be a proper approach of reverence and understanding for what is being done. Apparently, some at Corinth were treating communion as something like a meal without understanding how they should handle the event. Make sure that you are ready at communion time to receive the elements. This is God's will.

Greetings on this lovely late Summer day.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank the King's Kids and Jan Foltz for the special music yesterday. We appreciate your work and ministry for the Lord.

REMINDER: Next Sunday, September 18th, is the last of the Summer Concert Series 2011, featuring The Gospelmen. Please take advantage of this to do two things: Make sure that you attend and invite a guest to attend with you. You will be glad that you did and they will appreciate being asked... and maybe being introduced to a friendly church family. The whole purpose of the concert series is outreach. YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: "Do not deceive yourselves..." I Corinthians 3: 18a [NIV]. If you pay attention to the context, you will observe that this statement is made in a passage that is all about divisions within the church. The people in the passage apparently thought that their little groups had the inside track on truth, and as a result, anyone not part of their little clique was not quite as fortunate or blessed. We should not be boasting about who we follow or who our leader is. It must always be about the Lord and not about men. This is God's will for you.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: "Every one must submit himself to the governing authorities..." Romans 13: 1. This passage doesn't require much explanation or any interpretation. It is clear in stating that we as Christians should place ourselves under the authority of the government. This is God's will.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Luke 3: 11 it states,"... The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same." [NIV]. The principle here is very simple. We are obligated by love to help those in need if we are in a position to do so. The text emphasis is upon sharing from what one has. This is God's will for each of us.

August 22, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings on a very mild and enjoyable August Monday morning.

PERSONAL NOTE: Each time I start this blog, I want to thank everyone who made our Sunday service a great time of celebration and worship. I want to thank Sallie Stanley for all of her work towards the upcoming Rally Day (Aug. 28). I really thought that the skit that she put on was neat. Great job Sallie! I want to thank my wife, Jan for singing with me in a duet. Thanks Jan! We made it through.

Make plans now for The Gospelmen who will conclude our Summer Concert Series on September 18th at 4 pm. at the church. Decide now who you will invite and who you will actually bring. This is always a great opportunity to welcome guests into our church family. It's easy... let's do it!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Matthew 16 and verse 24 it says,"Then Jesus said to his disciples"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."[NIV]. The context of this passage is during a time when Jesus predicted his death at the hands of the Jewish religious leaders and his resurrection. Peter rebuked Jesus for saying such a thing and Jesus then takes Peter to task for being Stan's mouthpiece here and denying the need for what must come to pass. Jesus' death and resurrection are absolutely vital to the whole salvation idea. The Lamb must die in order to pay for the sins of the people. It is the concept of a substitutional atonement. We have eternal life because of Jesus' death at Calvary. Praise the Lamb of God!
