Dec. 28... Training Materials
It is my hope that you had a wonderful Christmas at your house. I know for me personally, it was a very nice Christmas. Jan, Angela, me and my Mother-in-law, Bea had a wonderful few days together. We had great holiday foods and lots of fun. We also had lots of gifts... that's the way Jan likes it!
PERSONAL NOTE: I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who helped in making the Christmas holidays as nice as they were. We had very nice decorations and lots of special treats. Let me thank all of the participants in the candle lighting each Sunday in Dec... you did a great job. Extra work always goes in to the music so "Thanks" to all of our musicians for their hard work (and the guys in the sound room).
I want to thank Angela Foltz and Janice Foltz for all of their help on the Christmas eve. service. I thought that it was a great time. It would not happen without the help of many hands.
Thank you Brenda von Linsowe for your solo special this past Sunday. Very nice... acappella.
I won't have the opportunity before the next blog to say this soooo... "HAPPY NEW YEAR, MMX!"
I trust that this new year will be better than this last year... on a number of levels!

Nov. 23... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTE: What a great Thanksgiving Sunday we had here at First Baptist!.
First, let me congratulate and thank all of you for your participation in the shoe box gift giving. Last year we had 127 boxes as a total at the end of our collection. We had 127 boxes by Saturday this year... and that did not count all the boxes brought in by our people Sunday morning. The good news is that we will exceed last years number nicely. Praise the Lord!
Second, I want to thank our musicians for making Sunday special. A special thanks to Jan Foltz for her solo and the choir for a nicely done number. GOOD JOB ALL!
Last, I want to thank everyone who had a hand in the Thanksgiving Dinner preparation that we shared in. It was marvelous! Great fellowship and good food... ahhhhhhh.
This week I will be on TV, Monday the 23rd at 2 pm. Pray for us as a panel that we will give good answers to serious questions. I also have two weddings this week end to officiate at. Busy... busy week. I hope that you will have a great Thanksgiving time with family and friends.
Some of our people will be leaving this week for warmer climates for a few months and we wish them well. Bob and Janis Johnson will be heading to Bradenton, Florida and Joyce Tennyson-Ream will be going to Floresville, Texas. Have a great winter friends... we will miss you!

PERSONAL NOTE: I had no doubt that yesterday, the Lord was working in our midst. The morning message was very clear and touched a number of lives... for that we praise the Lord.
I want to thank Cindy Mass and the Kings Kids for the special music that they shared with us. Thank You! We are always grateful when the children participate in the worship service. We look forward to their next visit.
I want to thank the Faith Fellowship class for the work done, Saturday night (11/14), on the Operation Christmas Child boxes. I was told that we finished off 44 boxes from just our Sunday School class. Last year our class did 30 something... we are ahead! YEAH!!!
Are you getting your personal shoebox ready to bring next Sunday? I hope so. Last year we had about 127 boxes total for the whole Church. Let's see if we can't break that total. Let us bless many more children through our faithfulness.
From this week until the first of January my schedule of activities gets very full. Remember to pray for me. Not only do I have the regular busy holiday events and activities, I have three weddings before December is over, and three appearances on ASK THE PASTOR. PERSONAL NOTE: It was good to have the "new" keyboard on the platform with Jan Foltz playing along with Linda Hittle. Jan is allowing us to use her home keyboard (which was formerly used in an auditorium) in our worship services. It will add a fuller sound to all of our singing. Thanks Jan!
A big thanks to Mr. Bud and the Savior Singers for the special music yesterday. It was a great number... we were blessed. Thanks to Emily Warner for her solo section in the song. Good work kids ( and Mr. Bud).
It was also great to take a moment in the service to honor our men and women who have served in our armed forces. We learned from each of them which branch they were in, which theater they were in and when they served. Thank you warriors! We owe you much on this Veteran's Day.
Coming up: On Wednesday, missionary Katherine Niles will be with us to speak and update us on what the Niles family is doing at the present time. Be there at 6:15 pm. in order to share in this report. Be up-to-date on what is happening in their lives. It will help you know how to pray.
As some of you know, "Ask the Pastor" has been started up again on channel WAQP 49 (channel 10 on cable) in Saginaw. I have been asked to resume making regular appearances on the program. It is usually once a month. I have agreed to appear. I view this as a good opportunity to give a clear witness for Christ and to share a conservative, evangelical, biblical point of view on the topics asked about. Pray for me as I have occasion to be on the program. The broadcasts are sometimes beamed all over the world. THIS MONTH'S BOOK RECOMMENDATION: I would encourage you sometime to purchase any good, recent Strong's Concordance. It will help you in your general study and in your teaching. PERSONAL NOTE: Allow me to take this space and thank all of our workers and parents who made the costume party on Saturday such a great event. As far as I could tell, the kids all had a great time. Thank you Barb and Bill Swift and crew for all of the work in pulling the event together. I must confess, I wanted to throw a pie at Don but I resisted! Many hands made for a great event.
I felt that yesterdays' worship service was well received by our people. I had many comments about the message. Let me thank Elizabeth Warner for playing her clarinet during the offering. Elizabeth, you did an outstanding job. In the words of that philosopher of the 50s, Arthur Fonzarelli... your playing was "superbamundo!".
I trust after the Graham video concerning "Operation Christmas Child", that you are already gearing up for the shoe boxes that you are going to fill to be delivered to children all over the world for this Christmas. What a great event!!!
This last week I received a gift catalog from Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham's organization), and I was overwhelmed by all of the creative ideas that we have available to help people that we have never met. We have the opportunity to "give a cup of cold water" in Jesus' name. The catalog has about 47 ways that we can help people who desperately need our help.
How about this: Gift # 21 is a $9 gift to feed a hungry baby for a week!
How about this: Gift # 19 is a $4 gift to provide milk for a child for a week!
How about this: Gift # 20 is a $10 gift to provide a life-saving mosquito bed net!
How about this: Gift # 27 is a $60 emergency medicine pre-packaged kit to aid 50 people!
There are many more... but these are just examples of how we can have a great impact on others this Christmas. Please take the time and visit Samaritan's Purse online at: www.samaritanspurse.org ... you will be blessed with the ways you can help. I believe that this is an organization we can trust. I personally am going to partner with them this season.

PERSONAL NOTE: I very much enjoyed our Sunday morning worship service, featuring our special guest, Rev. Roy Schwarcz from Chosen People Ministries. I enjoyed his message and the time that we had afterward at Lunch to talk. I hope that in the future we will again have the opportunity to hear from Bro. Schwarcz on other topics from his Jewish background.
I also want to thank Sue Warner and King's Kids for the message in song that they brought. Good job Sue and kids!
All in all, it was a busy week for me at the church... regular work plus two outings and a Saturday meeting in the Detroit area for a Michigan Bap. annual gathering. Dale LePage was also there as a representative from the church. Ministry happened and business was taken care of.
SPECIAL NOTE OF INTEREST: Today (Monday), I will appear on "ASK THE PASTOR" on WAQP, channel 49 (cable channel 10) out of Saginaw, Mich. I will be on a panel with several other ministers. It will be shown live at 2 PM. The program will be streamed all over the world. Please pray for me that the answers that I give will be accurate and biblical. PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take the time to thank everyone who made yesterday's worship experience what it was... especially our musicians and sound people. A special thanks to Mr. Bud and the Savior Singers for their message in song to us. Great job kids (and Mr. Bud)!
Remember that on Sunday, October 18, 2009 we will have as a special guest, Rev. Roy Schwarcz with us from Chosen People Ministries (a Jewish Messianic ministry). He will be presenting the "Messiah in Shavout, How the Feast of Pentecost Foreshadows the New Covenant and the Coming of the Messiah". We look forward to his ministry among us. This is a good opportunity to bring a guest with you to Church. Take advantage of it.
We have just begun a new Sunday morning message series on the Book of Daniel form the Old Testament. I believe that you will find this study to be helpful, challenging and applicable to us today. I know that you will find the prophetic themes of Daniel right of the history books and our news media. Jesus is going to come back to earth to rule and reign, and Daniel sets the stage for that. Make sure that you are here on Sundays to be challenged by God's Word. Know what is coming!

YOU CAN KNOW GOD'S WILL: In I Peter chapter 3 and verse 15, we see that the will of God is expressed by saying that each of us must always be prepared to make a defense of our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. In theology circles this is called apologetics. It is necessary for every believer to learn why they believe what they believe. The purpose is to be able to share clearly from the Bible the what and why of God's provision of salvation and the ramifications of it. Be prepared!

PERSONAL NOTE: I thought that yesterday's service was very good. We began a new preaching series on the Book of Daniel which I know will be inspiring and challenging. Sunday was just the introduction to the series. Oct. 11 will be the first message from the text itself. I encourage you to be here for it and think about who you can invite. I know your friends will benefit from the study of God's Word.
It was great to hand out the baptism certificates to three individuals and to extend the right hand of fellowship to two new members. Congratulations to Emily Warner, James Burkhardt, and Janis Johnson. We are glad to have you on board. May God bless you on your christian journey.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: I am not going to make a specific recommendation today, but I am going to make a general recommendation. I would encourage you if you are interested in good Bible commentaries on any of the New Testament books, consider any of Dr. John MacArthur's New Testament commentaries. September 14... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTE: We, at First Baptist, had a wonderful day Sunday (13th of September) with Greg Kelley of World Mission out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I rejoice over the check we were able to give toward "the Treasure" for evangelization efforts in the foreign fields. We gave the missions trip money from about a year ago (South Africa trip that due to unrest did not materialize). It amounted to slightly over $4,100.00. This allowed us to purchase and send about 100 "Treasures" (electronic audio devices) to people groups that are oral languages only people. These devices will be shared in small groups (12 or so) where the listeners hear the Bible in their own language. PRAISE THE LORD FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION! This is evangelism, pure and simple. The money could not be better spent. Many people will come to Christ as a direct result of our participation.
I want to especially thank Greg Kelley for coming and sharing with us this very exciting opportunity for outreach. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with World Mission.

YOU CAN KNOW GOD"S WILL: In I Peter 3:9 we have the statement that we, as believers, are to BLESS OTHERS. This is God's will for each of us... we should bless others, not curse others. Try it this week.

September 8... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in the working of Sunday's worship service. The message spoke to many people... which is what we want God's Word to do. Thanks to our men who assisted in the Communion fellowship... and to the ladies who prepared it. Thanks also to our platform musicians and sound people for your ongoing service.
A special thanks to Elizabeth Warner for the very nice offertory. Great job, Elizabeth. I look forward to your next special.
REMINDER: Sunday, September 13th, Greg Kelley will be with us from World Mission (Grand Rapids). He will be speaking to us on the "Abraham Project" and we will be making a special presentation to him. This is going to be a great fall kickoff Sunday!
Don't forget, on Sunday, September 27th, we will have a Fall Music Concert with Souls Harbor... a trio from Adrian, Michigan. We look forward to their participation. The concert is scheduled for 4 PM. here at First Baptist. We will take a freewill offering for them to help offset their expenses and assist their ministry in the future.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Please take the opportunity to check on the book by Renald Showers entitled: Maranatha Our Lord, Come. It is subtitled with: A Definitive Study of the Rapture of the Church. I know that you will find it helpful... especially the Jewish marriage analogy, starting on page 164. Check it out.
YOU CAN KNOW GOD'S WILL: God's will is expressed clearly through scriptures to us. In I Peter chapter 3 and verse 9, the Lord tells us that it is His will that we do not return reviling for reviling. It means don't slander or speak evil of someone who may have done exactly that to you. Think about that... this is God's will for you.

August 31... Training Materials
PERSONAL NOTE: Our Sunday service went well, but we were missing a musician on the platform. Rick Cunningham has resigned, as of August 24, 2009. I am saddened by this but I also know that God will provide. We ask for every one's help as we regroup in the days ahead. We will miss his music, but the Church must pick up the slack and move forward.
A special thanks to Dee Wilson for singing during the worship service. Great song... great job...nice ministry. Thanks, Dee.
I have a reminder to all of you concerning Sunday, September 13th, 2009. On this day Greg Kelly from World Mission will be with us for two reasons. He will tell us about World Mission and specifically the ABRAHAM PROJECT and our participation with two people groups by offering THE TREASURE so that they can hear the Word of God in their own language. You will not want to miss this Sunday. We will make a special presentation to Greg at this time.
