October 5... Training Materials

Good morning on this very sunny fall Monday. I hope that you have a busy week of service.

PERSONAL NOTE: I thought that yesterday's service was very good. We began a new preaching series on the Book of Daniel which I know will be inspiring and challenging. Sunday was just the introduction to the series. Oct. 11 will be the first message from the text itself. I encourage you to be here for it and think about who you can invite. I know your friends will benefit from the study of God's Word.

It was great to hand out the baptism certificates to three individuals and to extend the right hand of fellowship to two new members. Congratulations to Emily Warner, James Burkhardt, and Janis Johnson. We are glad to have you on board. May God bless you on your christian journey.

I am always glad to share in the communion time each month. It is always good for us to focus on the tremendous sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf. Thanks to everyone who helped to prepare and those who helped serve the elements.

In closing this personal section, let me say thaks to the choir for the number that you sang Sunday. Welcome back from summer vacation. P.S.: Thank you Dee for taking on the role as choir director. Good work!

YOU CAN KNOW GOD'S WILL: If you will read I Peter 3: 15, you will notice that it is God's will that all believers are to reverence Christ as Lord. I believe that the point is that we need to understand that Jesus is not just a prophet, teacher or just a good man... he is God! We should thus reverence him as such.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: I am not going to make a specific recommendation today, but I am going to make a general recommendation. I would encourage you if you are interested in good Bible commentaries on any of the New Testament books, consider any of Dr. John MacArthur's New Testament commentaries. I have found them to be excellent treatments of the Bible text. You may also find the Holman Commentaries on both the Old and New Testament to be helpful. Check them out!
