July 25, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings to each of you on this my birthday week!

PERSONAL NOTE: YES... it's true! This week, on the 28th, I will be 63 years old (or young... no, it's old). Inside I don't feel it but outside I can tell. Oh well, life goes on. I already had my birthday party with the family... and little Dallas (Angie's dog) was there to celebrate with me and lick... and chew on me... it was great!

I need to thank some people for help Sunday. Primarily, I need to thank Elise Flickinger and Emily Warner for the great duet they shared with us. Good job girls! This was their debut as a singing team. We are glad that they shared their talent with us. Next, I want to thank New Destiny Quartet for ministering to us in concert Sunday. It was a good concert... we had 62 in attendance and we were able to give them a love offering showing our appreciation. Our next concert is August 14, 2011 and will feature Stronghold Quartet from The Fowlerville area. Make sure you begin planning now to be here for this concert. Invite several guests to join you... make it a great outreach time.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Peter 2: 1 it says, "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice... ". In context, the passage talks about living a holy, obedient Christian life. Malice is from a Greek word, kakian, which refers to just about any kind of wickedness. The Christian has no business acting out in a wicked way... it is contrary to living a holy life. This is God's word on the subject. We need to obey.

July 18, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings on this very warm (hot) summer day in Grand Blanc, Michigan!

PERSONAL NOTE: Very quickly, a thank you goes out to Sue Warner for the special music Sunday... thanks Sue. I also wish congratulations to the two who received the right hand of fellowship Sunday as new members: Emily Warner and Tim Spohn.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Peter 2 and verse 17, the Apostle writes, "Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king." The context of the passage involves submission to the authorities over us. We do this because it is commendable and we are thus following in the Lord's footsteps. Our main priority is to honor God in our daily walk. This is God's will.

July 12, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings to each of you on this Tuesday morning. I am uploading the material today because we had Internet problems yesterday that would not allow me to post.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank those individuals who have mentioned the blessing of our studies in the Minor Prophets. The feedback is helpful. I also want to thank my wife, Jan, for her ministry in song Sunday. It was great... I always enjoy her singing... but I am a little biased! I want to thank everyone who was involved in the communion fellowship. All in all it was a great day.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Timothy 5: 3 it says,"Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need." The bottom line to all of this is expressed in the next verse where it points out that these acts of kindness are pleasing to God. In that culture, widows without families to assist them were potentially in a very risky position... even legally. God rewards those who look out for the benefit and welfare of those in our midst who may need a little extra care. This is the will of God for you. Consider taking up a ministry in this area of concern. You will be blessed and the recipients will too.

July 5, 2011... Training Materials

Greetings on this very sunny summer day!

PERSONAL NOTE: I must take this opportunity to thank everyone who had a part in this last Sunday's service. It was great to be able to be with you on the great Fourth of July weekend. Thank you, Brenda von Linsowe for your message in song. I hope that you had a fine Fourth of July... I know that I did. I spent time with Jan, Ms Bea, Angie, and of course, Dallas (Angie's dog... who was very busy).

REMINDER: Don't forget to take the concert insert that was in the bulletin and hand it out to someone. This is one of our summer outreach efforts. Please take advantage of it!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Matthew 19 and verse 19 it says, "... honor your... mother". This statement coincides with last week's blog which had to do with honoring father. The first thing we should note is that this is a command from the Lord... it is not a suggestion. A child learns honor and respect for others at home. If he does not get it there, he will have difficulty grasping the importance. Honoring our parents is a big step in honoring God. If we cannot honor and respect what we can see, how will we be able to honor and respect the One we cannot see? Doing this command is acting upon knowing the will of God.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: My book recommendation this month is, When Nations Die by Jim Nelson Black. It is subtitled: America on the brink: Ten Warning Signs of a Culture in Crisis. William Kilpatrick writes, "A lucid and revealing analysis of how great civilizations have died, and a practical prescription for avoiding their fate. Timely, provocative, and essential reading." I agree with Kilpatrick's conclusion. You will find the book very informative and a real eye-opener. It was published by Tyndale.
