October 25, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to everyone on this warm Fall day.

PERSONAL NOTE: Thank you Savior Singers and Mr. Bud for bringing us the special song that you did Sunday. We always appreciate hearing from our kids. I want to thank all of the workers who made the kids costume party a grand success. We had about 67 children, along with a large number of parents. I believe that everyone enjoyed the event (congratulations to all of the winners). I had the opportunity to gently put a pie in the face of Sam (whose last name will be omitted in order to protect her identity). THANKS WORKERS! A job well done!

Congratulation goes out to all of the ladies who participated in the Thursday evening Love Gift Tea. I trust that the event went well and you accomplished your goals.

  • Please remember to pray for me today as I will be on Ask The Pastor at 2 pm.
  • Next Sunday is designated as one of our attendance builder Sundays. Make sure that you plan to bring some guests with you that day. Let's try and hit 140!
  • Remember to vote coming up on Nov. 2
  • Next Communion Sunday is Nov. 7
  • A special day on the calendar is my wife's birthday on Nov. 9. I won't tell you the number! Happy early birthday wishes, Jan!
  • Nov. 21 is our Sunday Harvest Dinner... it's also one of our attendance builder Sundays. Let us begin to think who we will bring. Let's shoot for 150 in attendance!
  • The Grand Blanc area Community Thanksgiving Service is November 23rd at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.
  • November 28 will see the lighting of the first Advent Candle here at FBC.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Second Thessalonians, chapter 3 and verse 13, the Lord tells us that it is His will that we "... never tire of doing what is right." This passage teaches a very hands-on idea. God's word here is designed to be very practical. We should make it a point to be involved in good deeds. We should find it a joy and not a burden. You can figure out many ways to be doing God's will.

October 18, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to all of you on this Fall day.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take the opportunity to thank our missionaries, Christin and Steven Brown for coming and sharing their ministry with us yesterday. I know that we now have a greater understanding of their work in the Mid-East.

Steven's presentation during the Sunday hour was done with a clever approach. Good job Brown family!

  • Extra Notes: The Foltz family had some new landscaping done to the front of their house by Adam's Eden (Adam Doyle). He did a great job and Jan was very pleased (very important).

  • Don't forget the Annual Children's Costume Party at First Baptist on Oct. 23rd.

  • My next appearance on Ask The Pastor is scheduled for Oct. 25, 2010.

  • Our next attendance builder Sunday is Oct. 31, 2010. Make sure that you get involved.

  • Don't forget election day, Nov. 2, 2010. Get out and vote!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of Ephesians and chapter 5, verse 18 it states "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the Spirit." [NIV]

This is God's will for you. This one seems like a "no-brainer". This verse is, among other things, contrasting being led off into sin or being led by the Spirit in service to the King. If you are doing one you cannot be doing the other. Our daily roll as a Christian is to be led (filled) by the Holy Spirit. If we are not filled by the Holy Spirit, something or someone else will fill that spot. Who will it be? You will decide every day! Remember, this is the will of God for you.

October 11, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to each of you on this lovely Fall day.

NOTE: In case you did not notice, last weeks' blog was skipped because I was on vacation. We celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary near Petosky, Mi. We had great weather and an enjoyable time.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank everyone who was involved in the WOL FASCAR event on October 2, 2010. I saw a lot of people, both young and old having a great time. I congratulate all participants. A job well done! I also congratulate those who won in their categories.

Special thanks to our WOL missionaries who ran the event and to Barb and Bill Swift who supervise it's operations.

REMEMBER: Our annual children's costume party, "Shine the Light of Jesus" will be on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 6 pm. to 7:30 pm. This event is for children through grade six. It will be a great time for the kids!

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: This month I have chosen to recommend Dr. Charles Ryrie's book, Basic Theology. My edition was published by Victor Books in 1986. I am sure that you can locate a newer edition. Dr. Ryrie has been a staple of knowledge among conservative Evangelicals for many years. He has been a theology professor for a long time and I have appreciated his works through the years. You will find this single volume a great tool... especially if you are a teacher. It is concise and to the point... no fluff here! It is well worth your purchase.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: Today's passage is found in Second Corinthians, chapter 6 and verses 14-18. The statement we are concerned with here is this: "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers." This declaration by the Holy Spirit is a wide ranging one. I can think of a couple of areas that the author had in mind. First, he probably was hinting at their relationships with false teachers and their false teachings. Secondly, it directly applies to dating and marriage situations. Third, it could also apply to business relationships. The yoke was made of wood and it was used to bind two animals together as they worked pulling a plow, wagon, etc. Read the passage from verse 11 through chapter 7 and verse 4. You will get a better idea of what is being said. This is the will of God for you!

ADVANCED DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING: Please click on this LINK in order to read and download the article: "Four Killer Questions". This article will impress upon you the need to think and ask challenging, probing questions.

PARENTING HOPE: Please click on this LINK in order to read and download part 22 of the 28 part series: No More Jellyfish. This one is entitled: "Turn Your Cheek." Read this with an open heart and maybe you will spot something of interest... or find an answer.
