June 28, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings on this sunny Monday morning. I hope that you have a wonderful day.

PERSONAL NOTE: First, I want to thank and congratulate all of the workers who were involved in Vacation Bible School this past week. What a great week! All of our workers went the extra mile and did an outstanding job. THANKS!!!

I also want to thank Bill and Barb Swift who headed up and "mothered" the entire program. Great work, Swift Team. Bill, congratulate all of your crew for me. I don't have all of the stats yet, but it looked good.

I want to thank Bud Myers for singing this past Sunday. I enjoyed the song, Bud.

My thanks goes out to our 4 pm. Sunday concert group, Chosen. They put on a fine concert for us and made it very comfortable. I personally enjoyed the song selections... I was even singing along on several of the numbers. My only regret was the small turnout. I don't think our people have yet grasped the idea of "outreach". We will continue to work on it. Our next (and third) concert is on July 18, 2010 featuring Mark and Andrea Forester. Please plan now to attend and bring some guests with you. It is a low key way to share the Gospel with people.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Second Corinthians chapter 6 and verse 17 we see it recorded as the will of God that we are to "...come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.". This expression is an allusion to a couple of different OT. passage in Isaiah, Ezekiel and IISamuel. The context of the Corinthians passage is an appeal to separation from worldly practices that confuse the loyalty of the individual Christian (note verses 15-16). The Lord desires and neads clean vessels for service. We are to be those vessels.

ADVANCED DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING: If you wil go to this LINK you will discover 10 different lessons on the subject of Ecclesiology and Eschatology... or the doctrine of the Church and End-Time events. I don't expect that you will listen to them all in one setting! Tke your time and listen to them all... or the ones that you find pertinent. I believe that you will find the study helpful. Glean what you can... don't worry about what you can't.

June 21... Training Materials

Greetings to everyone on this sunny Monday morning. This is an exciting day because VBS at FBC begins today!

PERSONAL NOTE: I trust that all of you Dads had a great day yesterday... I know that I did. It was good to have my daughter here to celebrate the day (with gifts, too). Mom, Jan, Angie and I cooked steaks on the new grill. Man, I did a good job cooking those steaks... no brag, just fact!

Congratulations to the two of you who received the "watercolor" prints of the Cody's Car. I hope that you enjoy it.

Please remember to pray for me today as I appear on the Television program, Ask The Pastor at 2 pm.

VBS NOTE: Well, it's finally here and I watched as we got cranked up for the day. Thank you goes out to everyone on the team for all the effort put forward. We have lots of workers this week... and we will need them! Our theme for this year is "High Seas Expedition." It will be a busy yet rewarding week. A special thanks to Captain Bill and First Mate, Barb Swift for taking on this great project. WOW! Also, let me thank once again, all of you who are workers (crew) of the First Baptist Ship. I look forward to a great week of adventure.

Summer Concert Note: Next Sunday, June 27, 2010 is the second concert in our summer concert series. We will feature the group, formerly known as Reconciled. They are an area quartet. The concert begins at 4 pm. and we will receive a special love offering for the group. I am asking you to do two things. First, come out and support the concert. Second, make sure that you bring at least one guest with you. This is a great time to do outreach. I look forward to your presence.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Romans 12 and verse 16, scripture says (NIV) that we are to live in harmony with one another. The KJV says, "be of one mind". Both are correct because the teaching of the verse is that there must be unity (one mind) and harmony (one mind) among the believers... this is the will of God. Question: Do you make it a point to create harmony among the believers or discord? The will of God is to create harmony and unity. Let's practice it on a daily basis.

June 14, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings and salutations on this dreary Monday morning. I hope that it clears up a little.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thanks all of the young people who helped us on Sunday. Thanks, David Briggs, Debi Scott, Alexis Flenniken, Elizabeth Warner, Ryan Briggs, Megan Flickinger, Abie Briggs... boy, I hope that I didn't miss anyone (if I did, let me know).

Congratulations to all of the graduates listed in the bulletin. A job well done! Thank you to the King's Kids and Savior Singers for your music. Thank you Elizabeth Warner for your special music. Thank you Sue Warner for your guidance with the young people, Sunday.

REMINDER: Get ready for VBS... "High Seas Expedition" on June 21 - 25. It looks like it will be a great time!

Plan now on who you are going to bring to the June 27, 2010 summer concert here at First Baptist Church. We will have the group, formerly know as "RECONCILED" (there will be a name change) here at 4 pm. Please, take advantage of the opportunity to bring a guest with you so that they can hear the Gospel in song and find out more about us as a Church. It is all about outreach!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In I Corinthians 15: 58 it says "... always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord." This verse does not teach that we must be "witnessing" for the Lord 24 hours a day. What it teaches is that we should be in a frame of mind whereby we go at our work for the Lord with real vigor... because we know that our service is not in vain.

June 8, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to all of you on this Tuesday with a sunny morning. You will note that the Blog was not up on Monday due to Blogger problems on their end.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank Dee Wilson for her ministry in song last Sunday. I enjoyed it very much. I also want to thank all of the people who participated in setting up communion. THANKS! We also congratulate all of the members on the anniversary list from last Sunday. These were people who have been members for 40 years or more. WOW! A special recognition was given to Elizabeth Swift who has been a member of FBC for 82 YEARS! AMEN!!!

A mighty thanks to everyone who helped with the CAR SHOW! WOW!!! It takes a lot of hands to make it happen. I feel bad that the weather did not cooperate with us but that is the risk of an outside event. Thanks goes out to Terry and Sharon Garfield and their host of associates who made the event happen. I believe that we had 43 cars registered. There were some real beauties there (cars, that is). Here is what I know... much evangelistic material was distributed. We will trust God that exactly what He wanted was accomplished!.

Don't forget that VBS is upon us in two more Mondays! Are you ready? It should be a great time of salvation and discipleship. Please pray for the workers... and the kids.

Remember the Summer Concert series presentation on Sunday, June 27 at 4 pm. Start now deciding who you will invite to the concert. It is an opportunity to expose people to the gospel through song.

Please pray for me and the Spainhower family as Terry and I will both speak at the funeral of Delmar Spainhower today (8th) at 1 pm.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: Last week we looked at I Corinthians 15: 58. Today's word is also from that verse. It is "...Let nothing move you." The context has to do with resurrection and apparently questions that had come up on the subject. I can almost hear someone raise the issue of "why should we work so hard if there is no resurrection?". Paul, through the Holy Spirit makes it clear that it is our business to stand firm and not to be moved by such non biblical statements. Do not be moved in your efforts for the Lord. Our labor is not in vain!

BONUS BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Consider locating a copy of: Jesus and the Gospels by Craig L. Blomberg. It is published by Broadman and Holman Publishers. It is divided into 5 parts. Each part deals with a specific area, for example, part one is :"Historical Background for Studying the Gospels". This book deals with the life and teachings of Jesus. The book is wide-ranging and up-to-date. I know that you will find it helpful.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: The will of God fore today is expressed in I Corinthians 15 and verse 58. It says we are to stand firm or be steadfast. The context would seem to indicate that we should stand firm in our work and ministry for the Lord. I believe that is great advice. Conditions should not affect our loyalty to the Lord. We know what is coming therefore let us serve Him with all diligence.
