Welcome to this site on this cold, end-of-January day.
PERSONAL NOTE: As always, I want to thank all of our musicians who play the instruments or sing in the choir for your participation in the morning singing. It is good stuff!
I want to thank all of the men (and others) who went to Mayfair's Big Game, Hunting event. As near as I can tell there were 18 of us from First Baptist who went. It was a very enjoyable evening... and I even won a prize!
On the 27th we had our business meeting at the Church and among the things discussed was the adoption of the 2011 budget. It is a very realistic budget and I believe that we can handle it. Thanks goes out to all who worked on it to make it happen.
NOTE THINGS TO COME: On February 2, I will begin a new study series on Wednesday nights. It is entitled: "Journey To Your Spiritual Gifts". This will be a very helpful study for us to find out where God would have us serve in the Body of Christ. We will expand on this study in the near future with one that helps us lean area of long term ministry.
Plan now for our Missions Conference on March 9-13. We will have updates along with how some of the ministries work. Look for details in the near future.
Make sure that you are aware that Easter is late this year... April 24th.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: Today's reference is in Matthew, chapter 7 and verse 12. It says: "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets". Most of us are aware that this passage is what is known as the Golden Rule. Here Jesus states this in a positive manner. We are to act in a manner that we want others to do. We don't do things expecting something in return... we just act as we would like to be treated. If you want people to respect you... give respect. If you want people to treat you fairly... treat them fairly. This passage has a wide range of possibilities in our day-to-day experiences.
But, what if others don't reciprocate? Our "job" is to do our part and to leave the responses to God and the other party. You can only control what you do... not others. Acting on this verse is the will of God for you. If we follow the teachings of this verse, God will be pleased with us.

January 24, 2011...Training Materials
Warm greetings to you on a very cold wintry day in Michigan.
PERSONAL NOTE: I want to start right off by thanking all of the men who joined me on the platform yesterday for the "Manly Men's Serendipity Choir". I appreciate your willingness to serve on such short notice. Good job guys!
Remember me in your thoughts and prayers today as I will be on Ask The Pastor at 2 pm. Pray that all of the answers will be good answers and biblical.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of James, chapter 1 and verse 2 it says: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,". On the surface this may sound strange, but the text does continue to tell us that trials test our faith. Remember when you were in school and the teacher gave you a test? What was the purpose of the test (trial)? To see if you had learned the material and grown in the class. The same thing is true in your spiritual life. Tests and trials come to help us prove our faith. This is the will of God for you.

January 17, 2011... Training Materials
Greetings to each of you on this mid-January day.
PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take this opportunity once again to thank our musicians for their extra work on Sunday mornings. Thanks Jan and Linda. Also, Jan, the solo Sunday was very nice. I had never heard that one before. Good job, people!
Here is a quick calendar reminder: Monday... Deacons and Trustees meeting... Tuesday Advisory Board meets... Tuesday is Loyal Lights 75 and older luncheon. It's catered so please call Pauline if you plan to attend... Thursday, Men's Morning Fellowship.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of Second Corinthians and chapter 6 we find at verse 17 these words: "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing and I will receive you." [NIV]. This whole section harkens back to the ancient Jews and the Lord taking them into the promised land as His special people. The context of this passage is that the New Testament believer is not to be yoked together with unbelievers in their practices. We are to be separate from the worldly things and activities that would defile us as God's children. Think it through and you will discover that the concept is not difficult. This is the will of God for you.

January 11, 2011... Training Materials
Greetings on this wintry day in January of 2011. I trust that your day will go well.
PERSONAL NOTE: By now you have noticed that the blog is a day late. For that I apologize. I have been ill for about a week now and also lost my voice. I went to the doctor yesterday to see what was happening and he said I have a virus that has been widespread in our area. He had seen many cases of it over the last week or so. Needless to say, I am one of the victims. He gave me medication to take care of the problem and so I hope that I will be back to normal (whatever that is) shortly.
I want to thank Dee Wilson for leading the singing Sunday and Bobby Francis for speaking in my place in the am. service. Both of them did an excellent job. THANKS!!!
As always, I thank the Kings Kids and leaders for their participation in the worship service.
Please allow me to thank all of those individuals in our church who are primarily responsible for the financial distributions that are taken care of. Good work in the difficult year of 2010!!!
Once again, note our theme for the new year: PREPARED PEOPLE FOR SERVICE.

NEW SECTION... HELPING CHILDREN: Please click on this LINK in order to read and download, Helping Children with Attention Deficit Disorder. Everyone can benefit from this... to gain understanding and insight. It will also give you resources to share with those who need them.
YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In the Book of Hebrews, chapter 10 and verse 35 it says, "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded." The theme of this section is for the believer to persevere in the face of all odds. Maintain the same fervor that you had when you were first saved. Don't let Satan and the world wear you down. God will reward us. My job is to persevere... His job is to reward me for my faithfulness. This is God's will for you.

January 4, 2011... Training Materials
Greetings to each and everyone of you on this snowy winter's day. I trust all will be well with you today. I am sorry the blog was not up and running yesterday, but I was sick and could barely squeak out any words. Today is a little better.
PERSONAL NOTE: I was supposed to be on ASK THE PASTOR yesterday, but I had to call early in the morning to tell them my voice was non-functional above a whisper. I'm sorry for that... I don't like to miss because I know that it causes them a hardship.
I want to thank Dee Wilson for the special music this past Sunday. I also want to thank our regular musician staff for stepping up to take on the playing for the services and replacing Rich Brotemarkle's spot. We wish Rich well in his new endeavors. I also thank everyone who was involved in the set up or deliver of our communion time. Thank You!
I want to set as a theme for this new year: Prepared People for Service. You will see it in the bulletin this week and in the weeks to come. I hope to be able to pull together some special materials throughout the year the will help us train our people for some creative opportunities. Stay tuned!

BOOK TO RECOMMEND: This month I am going to recommend the book: I'm Glad You Asked by Ken Boa and Larry Moody. The book deals with "in-depth answers to difficult questions about Christianity." The book falls under the category of apologetics. Some chapter titles are: 3. Is there really a God?... 7. Why do the innocent suffer?... 8. Is Christ the only way to God?... 11. What about good works? There are 14 chapters in all. Each chapter will give you much to think about and will provide answers that can be used. I have found this a very helpful book in the ministry. I think that you will too.
NEW SECTION STARTING 2011... HELPING CHILDREN: In this new section I will share with you several short articles that will help in raising children... whether yours or someone else's. This section is good for parents, grandparents, teachers and Church workers in general. To get the first article: Helping Children with Their Anger. Please click on this LINK to read and download the article.
YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In First Peter 5 and verse 7 the scripture says: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." This verse does not contain any interpretive problems or difficulties. It is fairly straight forward in meaning. You and I as believers are to cast our anxieties (KJV has "cares" here). The believer can trust God and not worry because God cares for us. It is as simple as that. The difficulty here comes in realizing that I must trust God in word and action. This is the will of God.
ADVANCED DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING: Please click on this LINK in order to read and download the article, The Authority of the Bible.
PARENTING HOPE: Please click on this LINK and it will take you to a page where you can download an audio which involves an interview with a counselor on this subject. This is part 1 of two audios. Part 2 is next week. The subject is Defeating Disrespectful Behavior in Kids.
