December 27, 2010... Training Materials

Welcome and greetings on this cold wintry second day after Christmas. I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas experience. I know that we did at the Foltz's.

PERSONAL NOTE: I would like to start off with a big "Thanks" to all who helped with anything to do with the Christmas holiday celebrations. It was great! Thank you, Rich Brotemarkle for the special music Sunday.

I also want to thank Jan and Angela Foltz for their help at the Christmas Eve. service. Due to the illness of one participant, Jan had to fill in plus sing. It started to look like The Von Foltz family singers. We did not intend that but... Oh well.

Christmas at the Foltz household went very well. It was good to have Angie and Jan's mom, Bea, with us for all of the Christmas events. We all opened presents on Christmas eve. It took quite a while. I just thought that you should know... Jan did quite well, thank you!

As many of you are aware, my deceased dog Shelby, is rumored once again, to have provided me with two gifts this year... a watch and a belt. It is amazing how that happens. Beautiful watch Shelb!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Ephesians, chapter 6 and verse 4 it says, referring to children: "...bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." [NIV]. The message was given to fathers so that they would know how to train their children... not exasperate them. The methods used to train children should be biblical. They should be good sound tools. The scripture offers much advice to fathers... especially in the Book of Proverbs. Where are you going to get the Lord's instruction other than His Word? Fathers, go to the Book first, then train accordingly. This is the will of God for you.

December 20, 2010... Training Materials

Since this is the last blog before Christmas... MERRY CHRISTMAS!

What a joyous time of the year! It is a time that we set aside to remember the birth of our Savior those many years ago in Bethlehem.

PERSONAL NOTES: I need to thank several people and groups for their participation in the Sunday services. First, I thank the Savior Singers for their special music. Second, I thank Bud and Sallie for the Advent candle lighting. Third, thank you choir for the Bethlehem Suite presentation. Fourth, I want to thank "Mr. Bud" for arranging and "mothering" the entire Christmas program. Bud. I really enjoyed it. I pronounce it a winner!

Last but not least, a mighty thank you to Mary and the gang for all of the treats after the Christmas program. It was great!

REMINDER: Friday, the 24th, features a candle light Christmas Eve. Service at 7pm. It will last no longer than one hour. We invite you out to it. Also, don't forget to pick up all of your Christmas cards at the church mail center (in the lobby).

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Second John, verses 10 and 11 we see these words: "If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work." [NIV]. This passage may seem hard to grasp at first, but, in context it is a reference for accepting false teaching of the day and actually lending support to it by helping those who spread it.

Most scholars agree that the "teaching" being refered to was a basic Gnostic heresy that said Jesus did not come in the flesh, but rather temporarily came upon Jesus between baptism and crucifixion.

By taking these teachers in (in to the congregation and giving them a platform and support), this local Church was inadvertently helping the spread of this error. The same would be true for any local Church and who they allow to teach and preach. Care must be taken in our choices of teachers and messages. This is God's revealed will for you.

December 13, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to each of you on this VERY cold and snowy, wintry morning.

PERSONAL NOTES: I need to issue some special thanks to those who participated in yesterday's service. First, I want to thank Dave and Margie Lester for Lighting the third candle during our Advent Candle Lighting. Second, I need to thank Rich and the King's Kids for sharing the special music with us.

We hope to have the new projector bulb soon (you can't just go to Sears and buy another one). We rely on it to give ongoing information to the congregation... plus the songs! Hopefully it will arrive soon... then we have to find a brave soul to install it. I know who won't go up there...me!

Quite a few from the Church went over to American House and engaged the people in singing, cupcakes and punch. We had a great time... and they love the kids! Thank you Barb Swift and associates for setting that up. Quite a few of the guests showed up for the "party".

On a sad note, we lost one of our long-time members last week, Willard Frank. We will miss the counties' unofficial historian. Our best wishes go to June and family.

I will also be officiating today at the funeral for Lorraine Costabile. It will be at Sharp's at 1 pm. Pray for me and the family during this time.

DON'T FORGET... this Friday we are all going Christmas caroling. This will be a church-wide event. Meet at the Church at 5:45 to get our assignments.

Next Sunday evening is our children's Christmas program at 6 pm. Plan now to be there. It is always enjoyable... and sometimes a hoot!

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: If you look in your Bible at Second Peter 3 and verse 17. Here it tells the believer..."be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men." The lesson here is relatively simple and that is, be careful of false teachers and their teachings! Each Christian must take care as to which authors to trust and believe. There are many books available, but they are not all valuable. There are many voices on the radio and TV, but they are not all biblically correct. Make sure that you check out the "voices" that you listen to. It is possible that some of them are wolves in sheep's clothing. When in doubt, ask the Pastor. He may be able to shed some light on the issue. If we pay careful attention, we can know the will of God.

December 6, 2010... Training Materials

Greetings to everyone on a cloudy, wintry day.

PERSONAL NOTE: I want to take this opportunity to thank Ron and Linda Light for your assistance in the lighting of the second Advent candle yesterday.

I also want to thank our musicians who had to scramble to make some changes at the last minute due to the fact that the projector bulb blew Sunday morning with no time to make a change. Thanks people!

Choir: good job with the selection, "Come and See". I enjoyed it.

I also want to thank all who were involved in the communion preparation and distribution. We appreciate your service.

A sad note is that long time member, Willard Frank passed away early Sunday morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to June and the family. We will miss him. His funeral will be 11 am. on Wednesday the 8th, at Swartz Funeral Home.

YOU CAN KNOW THE WILL OF GOD: In Luke chapter 12, the author says in verse 15, "...Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed;...". This statement from Jesus is a prelude to the parable of the Rich Fool. He is not saying that we should not have things. He is saying that each and everyone one us must guard against the abundance of personal possessions to the disregard of our spiritual wealth with God. Focus on the things with eternal ramifications. This is the will of God for you.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION: This month I want to recommend a Baker book entitled: Answering Islam by N. Geisler and A Saleeb. It comes in paper back form and would be a good book for you to get on this subject. Ronald Nash says, "The Muslim presence in the United States continues to grow. It is important that we have a clearly written and fairly presented statement of what Muslims believe and how we as Christians may present the claims of Christ to them in a persuasive and loving way." I believe that you will find this book valuable. I know that I have.
