March 30... Weekly Training Materials

Greetings once again on a cold winter day from Grand Blanc , Mi... yes, that is snow once again on the ground! The good news is that the calendar says spring is at the door.

PERSONAL NOTE: Let me right up front thank Rick for speaking yesterday and Brenda von Linsowe for solo/duet that she sang with Rick. Good job! We had several people come forward at the end for prayer of one sort or another. It was a good service. While I'm at it, thanks Curtis for the Sunday School quarterly fellowship. It went well (Curtis, I got a couple of the questions wrong).

HOT OFF THE PRESS: April 04, 2009 is our next Church Workday. In May I will begin a new Bible study series entitled: "HOW WE GOT THE BIBLE". I know that everyone will find this helpful as we do a little research on the subject. It will also include a section on Bibles and why there are differences, etc. Don't miss it! Don't forget to mark down the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. Maundy Thursday at 7 PM. will feature a view of Isaiah 53 along with songs and communion. The community Good Friday service will be held at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 7234 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc. The whole service will run from noon until about 3PM. Our church has a section from about 2:25 to about 2:45. I am planning on being there from 2PM. to about 3PM... or the end. I would encourage our people to make that a target time. It was designed so that people could come and go as they saw fit. Please join us for this.

EXTRA ITEMS TO CONSIDER: I have come across a couple of web sites to add to our list at the right. The first is: Laridian PocketBible Software... especially note their Bronze Edition. It has good tools and a reasonable price. This software can be run off of a memory stick in your USB port. That means you can take it with you from machine to machine... completely portable!

The second site is: Springside Marketing... your site for everything Southern Gospel. They have current groups and a vintage section. I enjoyed the vintage offerings!

Greetings to all of you on this partly cloudy (or sunny) day in Grand Blanc, Mi.

March 16... Weekly Training Materials

Greetings to each one of you on this middle of March Monday. I know by the calendar that spring is coming and I look forward to it... but I do have to get ready for the skunks that have been ripping up my lawn... oh well, we must fight the good fight.

PERSONAL NOTE: Yesterday at First Baptist marked the close of our 2009 Missions Conference. I personally felt that it was a great success. How you ask? Very simply, our people were exposed to various ministries, we had some great preaching on missions and we received a very fine faith promise missions' total for this next year... up from last year! I want to thank Jordan Wertz and Bobby Francis of Word of Life, Leroy DeMasellis of Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, all of the musicians who participated, and last but not least, the Missions Committee of First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc. GIl Bonno and Crew... thank you for a job well done! While I am at it, let me thank all of the people who put on a great potluck Saturday night. It was a very busy week but well worth it. Praise the Lord!

On a sad note, I received word from WAQP channel 49 in Saginaw that they will no longer be producing the ASK THE PASTOR program at the Saginaw station. That means I will no longer be appearing on the program and representing our church. I feel bad about the decision but I thank the Lord for my participation on it over the last few years.

TODAY'S POLITICAL QUOTE: Abraham Lincoln did not go to Gettysburg having commissioned a poll to find out what would sell in Gettysburg. There were no people with percentages for him, cautioning him about this group or that group or what they found in exit polls earlier. When will we have the courage of Lincoln?" Robert Coles

TODAY'S LEADERSHIP QUOTE: "Some leaders are born women." Unknown source.

I trust that you will have a fine week and that we will all receive a "well done" from the Lord.

March 9... Weekly Training Materials

Greetings to you all on this cold March day. It seems we are at that time of the year when it's either rain or snow... oh well, spring is coming.

PERSONAL NOTE: Yesterday's service was a very good worship time. I received several comments about the message. I don't know if you noticed but Mr. Seth Cunningham participated in the morning service by playing the piano for the song "Shout to the north". He did such a nice job that I was not even aware that he was playing! Good work Seth.

Let me share with you an event that happened to me. Last week while I was in the office, a man stopped in to see me for a few minutes. He told me that he wanted to meet me because he had seen me on the TV program, "ASK THE PASTOR". He took the time to tell me how much he appreciated the fact that I was on the program and he liked the biblical answers. I told him that biblical answers is what the program is supposed to be about. Providing biblical answers is my purpose on the program. Thanks friend for stopping by. I will be on the TV program again on March 20, 2009.

Those of you reading this blog are some of the first to know that on May 17, at 4 PM., we will have a special music concert with the Calvarymen Quartet as our guests! I am looking forward to this and I encourage you to get behind this as an outreach event. We will be receiving a love offering for the group. Rick and I are in the process also of finalizing the summer concert series. I think you are going to like what you hear.

MONTHLY AUDIO: please see the March 2 blog for the link.
